About the Team
We are the L&H Experience Studies Centre (ES Centre), part of L&H Pricing & Portfolio Performance (PPP) within the Chief Underwriting Office (CUO). PPP brings together pricing expertise and portfolio oversight to support effective risk management, sustainable profitability, and strong performance across both new business and in-force portfolios.
The ES Centre acts as an in-house Experience Studies global solutions provider, delivering the platforms, tools, methodologies, and expertise that support the production of Experience Studies for traditional L&H business globally. Through the development and continuous enhancement of the Experience Studies Platform (ESP), we enable teams worldwide to perform efficient, consistent, and high-quality Experience Studies.
About the Role
This is a senior individual-contributor role combining hands-on solution development, actuarial and analytical judgment, and technical leadership. The position holder will deliver and continuously enhance Experience Studies solutions across L&H, including ESP capabilities, methodologies, tools, and governance.
As a trusted specialist, the position holder translates business needs into scalable, well-controlled solutions that enable consistent, efficient, and high-quality Experience Studies globally.
Key Responsibilities
Platform and Tool Innovation
Design, develop, and enhance the global Experience Studies Platform (ESP), including its R-based calculation engine, analytical databases, reporting ecosystem, and monitoring capabilities.
Translate complex actuarial and business problems into scalable, reusable analytical solutions that improve insight, automation, and efficiency.
Apply modern software engineering practices so ESP remains robust, maintainable, and aligned with global standards and future business needs.
Technical Leadership and Enablement
Serve as a trusted technical expert for Experience Studies teams worldwide, empowering them to deliver high-quality studies through innovative tools and methodologies.
Bridge the gap between actuarial expertise and technology by translating business requirements into technical designs, prototypes, and practical solutions.
Partner closely with IT development teams, providing specialist domain knowledge to ensure solutions are accurate, effective, and fit for purpose.
Governance and Best Practice
Help define and strengthen the global framework governing Experience Studies actuarial methodologies, tools, and processes.
Establish standards, best practices, and guardrails that balance consistency across markets while enabling flexibility to meet local business needs.
Promote a culture of quality, transparency, and continuous improvement across the Experience Studies community.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with actuaries, data specialists, and technology teams across regions to drive the evolution of the ESP and broader Experience Studies capabilities.
Build strong partnerships with global Experience Studies teams, acting as a trusted advisor and catalyst for innovation.
Influence stakeholders across functions to align priorities, share knowledge, and deliver impactful solutions.
Quality, Innovation, and Continuous Improvement
Lead development activities from concept through delivery, ensuring solutions are accurate, reliable, documented, and aligned with business objectives.
Embed quality through structured testing, validation, peer review, version control, and transparent release practices.
Identify opportunities to improve automation, analytical methodologies, platform usability, and user experience through emerging technologies and best practices.
Capability Building and Knowledge Sharing
Develop engaging training materials and learning resources covering Experience Studies methodologies, analytical approaches, and ESP capabilities.
Inspire and upskill actuarial and Experience Studies practitioners globally through training sessions, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Help build a connected global community of Experience Studies practitioners by promoting collaboration, learning, and continuous development.
About You
We're looking for a technically minded actuarial or analytics professional who enjoys building scalable solutions, solving complex business problems, and enabling others through technology.
Essential
5+ years of experience in Life & Health insurance, actuarial, analytics, data science, or a related quantitative field.
Strong programming skills especially in R, with experience developing production-quality analytical tools, applications, or frameworks.
Experience translating business requirements into practical technical solutions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and challenges.
Experience collaborating with both business stakeholders and technology teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders across different functions and seniority levels.
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently while contributing effectively within cross-functional teams.
A customer-focused and solution-oriented mindset, with a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
Desirable
Experience Studies experience.
Actuarial qualification or progress towards qualification.
Experience in pricing, valuation, underwriting analytics, claims analytics, assumption setting, or portfolio management.
Experience with databases, cloud platforms, software engineering practices, CI/CD, or data engineering.
Knowledge of Life & Health products across multiple markets or regions.
Experience delivering training, coaching, or knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Experience applying disciplined development practices such as structured testing, documentation, version control, peer review, and controlled releases.
