Finance Business Partner (Retail Annuities)

Company Description

Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836 and strive to build a better society while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders.

We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, UK and US life insurance, and UK workplace pensions and retirement income.

Who we are

Our Retail business supports customers throughout their lives to help them save, plan, protect, and enjoy retirement. We’re a leading provider of retirement and protection solutions. We aim to support our c.12.8 million policyholders and workplace members throughout their lifelong financial journeys.

We focus on helping the customers of today and tomorrow achieve better long-term outcomes. We either talk with them directly or work with intermediaries and employers to meet their needs. We use the latest technology to connect with them quickly, efficiently, and wherever possible in highly personalised ways.

Job Description

We’re looking for a Qualified Actuary to join our Retail Annuity Finance team as a Finance Business Partner. In this role, you will work at the heart of a collaborative, commercially focused Finance function.

You will combine financial and actuarial understanding with clear communication and commercial judgement to help colleagues understand performance, evaluate options, and take well-informed action.

You don’t need to be a Retail Annuity specialist to thrive in this role; what matters most is your ability to understand the wider context, work confidently with stakeholders, and turn complex information into practical insight.

If you want to play a key part in supporting the strategic decision-making of one of the UK’s leading Retail Annuity providers, we’d love to hear from you.

This role is a Hybrid working opportunity, which means you can split your time between your home and the office to find a work-life balance that works for you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting senior finance leaders in understanding the main drivers of financial performance.
  • Partnering with stakeholders to provide constructive challenge and support commercial decision-making.
  • Building trusted relationships across L&G Retail and the wider organisation.
  • Contributing to financial plans and forecasts across IFRS, new business, Solvency II, cash, expenses, and sales.
  • Translating complex financial information into clear, relevant, and actionable insight.
  • Assessing the financial implications of strategic, commercial, and operational decisions.
  • Monitoring relevant regulatory, accounting, and risk developments.
  • Ensuring all analysis, decisions made, and activity undertaken consider the fair treatment of our customers.

Who we're looking for:

  • A Qualified Actuary, with relevant experience across life insurance, annuities, PRT, protection, or savings.
  • Strong business-partnering skills and the confidence to build trusted stakeholder relationships.
  • The ability to understand complex issues and communicate them clearly to different audiences.
  • Commercial awareness and evidence of applying financial insight to decisions.
  • Sound judgement, initiative, and the ability to think independently.
  • Experience balancing priorities and delivering effectively in a fast-moving environment.
  • Knowledge of financial planning, forecasting, risk management, and relevant insurance reporting frameworks.
  • Understanding of the annual financial planning cycle, monthly/quarterly forecasting cycle, cost management, and relevant cost allocation methodologies.

Benefits:

  • The opportunity to participate in our annual performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes.
  • Generous pension contribution.
  • Life assurance.
  • Healthcare Plan.
  • 27 days holiday, plus public holidays, with the option to buy and sell holiday.
  • Competitive family leave.
  • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax-efficient salary sacrifice.
  • Discounts for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online.
  • We’re creating net-zero carbon workplaces by 2030 by investing in our sustainable, modern offices across the UK.

Additional Information

At L&G, we believe it's possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all. If you join us, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive culture, with opportunities to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences.

Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing, you will be empowered through initiatives that support people to develop their careers and excel.

We care passionately about outcomes rather than attendance and are therefore open to discussing all kinds of flexible working options including part-time and job shares.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t meet every single criterion in this advert. Instead, think about what you excel at and what else you can bring in terms of strengths, potential, and connection to our purpose.
