Actuarial Expert (Validation Team)

About the role
As an Actuarial Expert in the Independent Validation team, you will be responsible for conducting independent reviews of models used within the Aviva Group. This includes the assessment of methodologies, calibrations, assumptions, and regulatory compliance.
You will lead end-to-end validation activities, prepare comprehensive validation reports in English, and present findings and recommendations to senior management. This role requires a strong actuarial background, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to challenge model assumptions constructively while building effective relationships with model owners and key stakeholders.

What will you be doing?
- Conduct independent validations of models used across the Aviva Group in line with applicable internal requirements and standards
- Assess the methodology, calibration, and appropriateness of insurance and actuarial models
- Evaluate compliance of the Internal Model with Solvency UK requirements and related regulatory expectations
- Lead and coordinate end-to-end validation processes
- Manage communication with model owners and stakeholders throughout validation activities
- Prepare comprehensive validation reports in English covering model assessments and findings
- Provide constructive challenge and negotiate validation recommendations with model owners
- Present validation outcomes, conclusions, and recommendations to senior management and governance forums
- Assess emerging methodologies and determine their suitability for different components of the Internal Model and related actuarial models
- Ensure high quality, accuracy, and consistency of validation analyses and documentation while working within agreed timelines
What we’re looking for
- Extensive experience working with insurance and actuarial models
- Knowledge of Prophet ALS models or AI/ML-based models, including experience in assessing and validating such models, is desirable
- Strong ability to quickly understand, assess, and challenge methodologies and their application across different modelling areas
- Deep knowledge of actuarial and statistical methods with advanced modelling skills
- Experience in model validation, model governance, risk modelling, or related actuarial functions would be a strong advantage
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with model owners and senior management
- Ability to provide independent challenge, discuss methodological concerns, and agree practical recommendations
- Strong presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics to both expert and non-technical audiences
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written), including professional report writing
- Professional actuarial qualification, advanced certification, licence, or academic degree demonstrating the expertise required to prepare materials and reports for regulators
- Ability to work independently, under time pressure, and with a strong sense of accountability
- Commitment to delivering high-quality analyses and reports within agreed deadlines
