The opportunity

Join our team as an Actuarial Analyst supporting our LMI and Specialty portfolios, including Professional Indemnity and Engineering. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop your actuarial expertise across reserving, financial reporting, portfolio analytics and regulatory reporting.

Your new role

At QBE, our actuarial vision is Actuarial Insights into Strategic Value. We combine technical expertise, commercial thinking and stakeholder partnerships to deliver insights that support better business decisions and create value across the organisation.

As part of the Business & Consumer Actuarial team, you'll work alongside experienced actuaries and gain exposure to a diverse range of portfolios, products and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the end-to-end quarterly reserving process for LMI, Professional Indemnity and Engineering portfolios, including key regulatory and statutory deliverables.
  • Support IFRS 17 reporting processes, including General Measurement Model (GMM) valuations for the LMI portfolio.
  • Assist with portfolio monitoring and performance analysis, identifying trends, emerging issues and opportunities to improve profitability.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of data processes, reserving models/platform and reporting process to improve efficiency and the quality of insights.
  • Support a range of actuarial projects and ad hoc analyses, including pricing, capital and broader portfolio initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across underwriting, claims, finance and the broader business to deliver actionable actuarial insights.

About you

You are a curious and analytical problem-solver who enjoys working with data, developing insights and partnering with stakeholders to support business outcomes.

You will have:

  • A degree qualification in Actuarial Studies, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Progress towards Fellowship of the Actuaries Institute (or equivalent actuarial qualification).
  • Experience in general insurance reserving, pricing or portfolio analytics (highly desirable).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with advanced Excel capability and experience in SAS, R, Python or similar analytical tools advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive mindset, positive approach to change and continuous improvement, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
