About Modeling and Actuarial Solutions (MAS)

Modeling and Actuarial Solutions (MAS) is a central function within MetLife responsible for actuarial modeling across the enterprise. MAS brings together deep actuarial expertise, advanced modeling platforms, and artificial intelligence to ensure MetLife’s leaders are informed by cutting‑edge insights from models they trust.

The MAS team designs, builds, tests, and operates actuarial models that support financial reporting, business decision‑making, and long‑term value creation. By embedding AI and advanced analytics into our modeling lifecycle, we enable faster insights, stronger controls, and higher‑quality outcomes across geographies and products.

The Role

This role leads the Modeling and Actuarial Solutions team supporting the Chile and Colombia businesses, operating from MetLife’s Center of Excellence in Argentina. Chile is the 3rd largest country out of the United States for MetLife.

The role is both strategic and hands‑on. It combines accountability for actuarial integrity and regulatory compliance with leadership in modern modeling practices, including the use of AI and advanced analytics to deepen insight, improve efficiency, and strengthen model governance.

The role offers significant exposure to senior leadership across Latin America, close partnership with Chief Actuaries and business teams in Chile and Colombia, and the opportunity to shape how actuarial modeling evolves in a rapidly changing environment.

Key Relationships

Reports to: LatAm Head of CoE Metrics, Actuarial Modeling & Regional Actuarial Coordinator

Direct Reports: 4 actuarial professionals and 2 interns

Key Stakeholders:

  • Chile and Colombia Chief Actuaries
  • Chile and Colombia Actuarial and Pricing teams
  • LatAm Metrics team
  • Actuarial IT and modeling platform teams

Key Responsibilities

Actuarial Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Lead actuarial modeling activities for the Chile and Colombia businesses, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, local regulations, and business priorities.
  • Deliver actuarial model results for LDTI, VNB, and related metrics with a strong focus on accuracy, transparency, and timeliness.
  • Act as a trusted actuarial partner to business leaders, responding to management requests and supporting strategic decision‑making.
  • Review and challenge methodologies, assumptions, and results to ensure robustness, consistency, and insight.

Modeling, Analytics & AI Enablement

  • Own the full actuarial modeling lifecycle for new and existing products, including model development, enhancement, testing, documentation, and ongoing operation.
  • Embed the use of AI, advanced analytics, and automation into how models are built, tested, and run, using these tools to:
    • Identify anomalies and risks earlier
    • Generate deeper insights from model outputs
    • Improve efficiency and reduce manual effort
    • Enhance model documentation, testing, and controls
  • Ensure models perform as expected and proactively propose improvements where limitations or inefficiencies are identified.
  • Partner with Actuarial IT and enterprise teams to adopt emerging technologies and modern modeling practices.

Governance, Controls & Quality

  • Ensure actuarial models and processes meet MetLife’s enterprise control, governance, and documentation standards.
  • Maintain strong controls over data, assumptions, calculations, and outputs.
  • Support internal and external reviews by clearly explaining models, assumptions, and results.

People Leadership & Capability Building

  • Plan, organize, and oversee day‑to‑day modeling activities for the Chile and Colombia portfolios.
  • Provide technical direction, coaching, and mentorship to develop a high‑performing actuarial team.
  • Identify skill gaps and actively build capability in areas such as advanced modeling techniques, AI, analytics, and automation.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop diverse talent, creating development opportunities aligned with both individual career aspirations and future organizational needs.
  • Lead performance management processes with a focus on growth, engagement, and continuous improvement.

Candidate Qualifications

Technical & Professional Experience

  • Qualified Actuary (highest professional designation in country of qualification).
  • Minimum of 5 years of Life Insurance actuarial experience, preferably in modeling and valuation roles.
  • Strong experience with actuarial and analytics tools, such as Prophet, Alteryx, Python, R, SQL, VBA, and/or Power BI.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI, automation, or advanced analytics to improve actuarial modeling, analysis, or controls.
