Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst III

Job Summary:

The Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst III will utilize SQL and other data platforms to analyze medical claim and revenue data for Kaiser Permanente Medicaid members in California and Hawaii.

The position will own and maintain a series of database queries that gather data from various sources to be used in financial reporting and rate development templates to regulators. This position is primarily responsible for supporting the data infrastructure required for financial planning, modeling, analysis, and forecasting.

  • Supports improving financial performance by identifying financial trends and calling attention to operational issues that need to be addressed.
  • Supports business modeling by developing best-practice models and analyzing risk alternatives.
  • Supports reporting of region/business unit financial information by evaluating financial trends and using data from region/business unit systems to support analyses.
  • Supports assessment of the business vision, objectives, and strategic initiatives by conducting research to assess financial impact.
  • Creates budgets and/or forecasts under the guidance of others by analyzing budgeting trends and coordinating with others to develop department/regional budgets.
  • Evaluates performance/operations/financial state by conducting complex financial analyses and completing complex variance analysis.
  • Supports internal and external audits by assisting with preparation of audit schedules and review of audit results.
  • Supports field operations by analyzing their operational/financial performance.
  • Supports Financial Statement Analysis of business partners by determining the financial status of business partners and assessing risk implications.
  • Supports others in advising region/business unit leaders on strategic fiscal matters by preparing regular and special reports for financial management.
  • Supports strategic financial planning by performing and evaluating financial, utilization, and benchmark analytics.
  • Supports strategic financial planning by gathering and preparing recommendations for financial plans and operating forecasts.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in finance, business, or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of Financial Planning & Analysis experience, or directly related business experience. Additional equivalent work experience in a directly related field may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Intermediate/Advanced SQL
  • Strong Data Analysis Skills
  • Experience with medical insurance claim and revenue
  • Experience with Medicare/Medicaid, Managed Care, and the California market is preferred.
