Department Details:

Internal Audit Services' purpose is to enhance risk management while helping to protect and create value for Kaiser Permanente. Our vision is to serve as a trusted advisor offering proactive and timely advice, strengthening internal controls, supporting strategic objectives, and ensuring organizational resiliency.

Our mission is to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals' operations.

Internship Projects:

Join our Internal Audit Services (IAS) team and gain meaningful, hands-on experience within the Information Technology and Enterprise Business Services (IT/EBS) portfolio. As an intern, you'll work alongside seasoned internal audit professionals to help evaluate business and technology controls, identify and assess risks, and highlight opportunities to strengthen operational effectiveness and compliance with leading industry standards.

Projects within this portfolio span a wide range of enterprise and technology-driven areas, including cybersecurity, systems implementations, artificial intelligence technologies, facilities services, supply chain and sourcing, revenue cycle, and other critical business functions.

The intern will support engagements across multiple phases of the audit lifecycle, including planning, testing, and reporting. Responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting research to understand business processes, risks, and regulatory expectations.
  • Participating in meetings and walkthroughs with EBS and IT process owners.
  • Documenting business processes, key controls, and identified gaps.
  • Performing audit testing, including data analysis and validation of controls.
  • Assisting in the development of clear, concise audit documentation and deliverables.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain real-world internal audit experience in a complex enterprise environment. Interns will benefit from exposure to widely recognized frameworks such as COSO, COBIT, and NIST.

Interns will gain hands-on experience auditing both technology-enabled and business processes, direct mentorship from experienced auditors and audit leadership, and development of analytical, technical, and professional communication skills that are highly valued across internal audit, risk management, consulting, and broader business roles.

Target Majors: Computer Science; Data Science; Management Information Systems; Information Technology; Finance & Accounting.

Education:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or have graduated from an accredited university within the last year.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration:

Additional Requirements:

  • Aptitude to perform data and process analytics and formulating solutions.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high quality work in short periods of time.
