Location:

Department Details:

The California Sales & Account Management (CSAM) organization represents the go-to-market teams that sell and renew in the marketplace, primarily across California large commercial and other sales and account management functions.

We are accountable for the successful execution of the organization's California membership, revenue, and margin goals. Within CSAM, sits the California Labor & Trust department.

The California Labor and Trust team manages a large and complex statewide Book of Business (BoB) focusing on Taft-Hartley Trust Funds. We manage 172 accounts, covering approximately 700,000 commercial and Medicare members, that generate over $6.5bn in revenue annually.

We work primarily with fee-based consultant houses who have deep actuarial bench strength and often are hired to provide that expertise to help manage customer's self-funded plans.

Our top industries represented within our Trust Funds are Transportation and Warehousing (i.e. Teamsters and International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU)) and Building Trades (i.e. Construction, like Carpenters, Laborers, and various finishing trades like Plasterers, Tilers, Electricians, etc.), which comprise 66% of L&T's overall BOB, with the balance of industries differing by region.

Internship Projects:

Conduct detailed analysis on L&T department budget trends, Investment Fund Bank (IFB) acquisition and retention costs, and engagement quality assessments to identify patterns and actionable insights.

Lead and execute a few key projects that require deep analytical rigor and structured problem-solving.

Assist in advancing focus-area projects that strengthen our Industry and Apprentice Strategy work, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Target Majors:

Data Science; Computer Science; Math/Statistics; Business Administration

Target Skillset:

Data Analysis & Reporting, Project Management, Cross-Functional Collaboration (Work closely with internal teams to gather data, validate findings, and present results in a clear, compelling manner).

Self-Starter (ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision).

Collaborative Communicator (Comfortable checking in with the manager or team members to clarify questions and take on additional responsibilities as needed).

Analytical Curiosity: Strong aptitude for digging deeper into data, investigating details, and following information trails to uncover insights.

Education:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or have graduated from an accredited university within the last year.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration:

Additional Requirements:

  • Aptitude to perform data and process analytics and formulating solutions.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high-quality work in short periods of time.
