Transformation Actuary (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)
Company Description
Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836 and strive to build a better society while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders.
We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, UK and US life insurance, and UK workplace pensions and retirement income.
Our Group Functions provide the services that all areas of the business need. This requires a talented and diverse team behind the scenes, who enable everyone at L&G to do what they do best. Joining us means helping to improve the lives of our customers and contributing to the success of the business every day.
Job Description
We’re looking for a Transformation Actuary to join our Group Finance function and help drive meaningful change across L&G. In this role, you will work as an internal consultant, partnering with a wide range of teams to improve processes, enhance controls, and evolve our modelling capability.
If you enjoy solving complex problems, shaping better ways of working, and collaborating across diverse stakeholder groups, this is an excellent opportunity to make a real impact. This is a hybrid working opportunity that will allow you to work flexibly between your home and our Central London Offices, to find a work-life balance that works for you.
As this role has come about due to Maternity Leave, it is only available on a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract basis.
What you’ll be doing:
- Identifying, developing, and implementing innovative solutions that meet both the regulatory and commercial needs of the business.
- Supporting the development and enhancement of actuarial models and tools using relevant coding and technical skills.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to analyse existing controls, assess issues, and take recommended solutions through delivery into implementation.
- Improving processes, undertaking root-cause analysis to assess barriers to process efficiency and identifying optimal solutions.
- Working closely with Finance Transformation colleagues to deliver agreed changes in a timely manner.
- Managing stakeholder relationships through proactive communication and clear explanation of process or procedural changes.
- Engaging with teams across Group Finance to influence continuous improvement and support transformation priorities, whilst also ensuring that proposed changes meet their expectations.
- Ensuring appropriate processes, systems, and controls are in place to support Treating Customers Fairly requirements.
Qualifications
Who we’re looking for:
- Qualified Life Actuary or equivalent relevant experience (e.g. Actuarial Model/Systems Developer).
- Demonstrable knowledge of Assets & UK Pension Scheme liabilities, IFRS & Solvency II Reporting metrics and Risk & Regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess issues and develop effective solutions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, adapting style to different audiences.
- Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across teams by building and maintaining strong relationships.
- Experience in process and controls analysis with a track record of delivering required improvements.
- Ability to learn modelling and data tools such as VBA, R, or PowerBI.
- A proactive, flexible approach and the ability to work effectively in a changing environment.
Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
- A competitive salary.
- The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes.
- Generous pension contribution.
- Life assurance.
- Private medical insurance.
- 27 days holiday, plus public holidays. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday.
- Competitive family leave.
- Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice.
- Discounts for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online.
At L&G, we believe it's possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all. If you join us, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive culture, with opportunities to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences.
Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing, you will be empowered through initiatives which support people to develop their careers and excel.
We care passionately about outcomes rather than attendance and are therefore open to discussing all kinds of flexible working options including part-time, term-time, and job shares.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t meet every single criterion in this advert. Instead, think about what you excel at and what else you can bring in terms of strengths, potential, and connection to our purpose.
