Pricing Actuary

About the Role:

Reporting to the Head L&H Pricing Japan, the candidate will be responsible for pricing business written by the Japan office in accordance with relevant technical guidelines and the Terms of Trade.

The candidate will also be responsible for developing new business opportunities in close cooperation with client managers, underwriters, and other units by developing new product offerings, identifying joint product development opportunities, and structuring solutions mainly from a traditional reinsurance perspective.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage actuarial matters to execute quotations for traditional and non-traditional reinsurance structures.
  • Maintain actuarial Terms of Trade, i.e., the detailed terms on which business can be written, for all major lines of business, and initiation of regular experience studies in support of these terms.
  • Identify/develop products to meet client needs through analysis of market trends, geographical changes, social welfare system changes, and offshore market trends, utilizing regional input as needed.
  • Develop new business opportunities through tailoring of reinsurance structures, delivery of new product ideas, and/or product development support.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key clients including liaising on product development projects and delivery of presentations.

About the Team:

The team consists of 5 members currently located in Japan. This team will also work closely with the Pricing and Experience support team located in Bangalore.

About You:

You are a qualified actuary or close to qualified actuary with at least 2-3 years of experience in actuarial product design and pricing in Japan.

  • You are knowledgeable about products, product development, and product trends in the market. You have experience using and applying actuarial pricing tools.
  • You have a fundamental understanding of the Japanese (re)insurance industry and the local insurance regulations.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills (in Japanese and in English).
  • You are well organized, a good time-manager, and able to manage projects effectively both independently and as a team player.
