Role Description

The EMEA SME Actuarial team is seeking an experienced and motivated actuarial professional to contribute to AIG’s strategic initiatives in this segment. The SME & Flow Portfolio Actuary will be responsible for pricing, profitability studies, portfolio management and optimization, product design and data management while also working closely alongside Underwriting, Product, IT, Claims, and Distribution. This role will support both the existing SME portfolios across the EMEA region as well as the launch of new products in new territories.

Actuarial responsibilities:

  • Support the pricing, planning and results monitoring of the book of business working closely with the underwriting heads, regional actuaries and group functions as appropriate.
  • Provide thought leadership into the profitability of the respective business and help guide senior leadership in making decisions on growth, rate action, remediation and product changes.
  • Support the development, alignment, and execution of portfolio strategies, working with regional product line leaders and regional underwriting.
  • Help introduce business focused changes or improvements that promote profitability and growth and take an active role in their implementation and monitoring as part of playing a key role in the creation of annual plans.
  • Carry out price adequacy reviews and review the appropriateness of the reinsurance program to meet the ongoing needs of the business, as well as provide experience, expertise and insight into complex projects.
  • Conduct ongoing analysis of the SME & Flow portfolios to refine understanding of current and potential future exposures.
  • Support the development, calibration, and implementation of first-in-class rating and portfolio management tools as part of the global actuarial team.
  • Support the development of new SME & Flow products and their technical pricing models, ensuring best practice pricing techniques are being implemented. Also support the localization of core products in new territories.
  • Work closely with the technical pricing function to enhance pricing and modelling capabilities.
  • Act as subject matter expert and peer reviewer of reserve reviews for local stat and US GAAP.
  • Provide constructive peer review and challenge of actuarial work and processes and proactively identify areas of improvement.
  • Review assumptions and inputs that contribute to assessing the capital requirements and projection of future requirements and capital resources and support the business through wider model uses including business planning, reinsurance analysis, monitoring key risks.
  • Collaborate with regional actuarial functions supporting a one-team ethos.
  • Assist the relevant underwriting heads in the annual review of the underwriting business plans and make recommendations on enhancement.
  • Support the delivery of regular, consistent, and reliable analysis and recommendations for all areas of the business, regular underwriting performance studies to improve the understanding of the current and projected financial stability and risk profile of the business.
  • Manage a team of 1-2 actuaries.
  • Help to oversee the adherence to the risk management framework including group underwriting standards, complying with key regulatory and risk management procedures.
  • Adhere to all AIG guidelines such as those regarding profitability analysis, pricing models, rate monitoring, etc.

Job Profile - Requirements and skills - What we’re looking for

What you'll need to succeed:

  • FIA, FCAS or strong equivalent actuarial background required; Extensive P&C experience.
  • Experience in relevant or similar actuarial role, experience specifically with SME or digital products preferred.
  • Fluent in English (strong English language skills are a must).
  • Proven leadership, influencing and negotiation skills in a highly matrixed environment; able to resolve differences while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Proactive individual, who challenges existing processes, can influence others and drive a process to a conclusion while meeting critical deadlines.
  • Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams, working with colleagues in various locations across the region, and driving forward initiatives through developing personal networks and powerful and influential communication.
  • Proficiency in Excel, VBA, SQL. Python, R or other programming languages preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with thorough attention to detail.
  • Strong project management skills and drive-for-results mentality, with the ability to multi-task and make decisions in a business context.
