Senior Actuarial Analyst (12 Month FTC)

The opportunity

  • An opportunity for a Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our Managed Funds Claims Business
  • Location: Sydney or Parramatta
  • 12 month fixed term

Your new role

This is your opportunity to expand your career in the role of a Senior Actuarial Analyst in our Managed Fund Claims Business. You will deliver analytics and modelling support to our claim management business to understand, challenge and manage performance.

You will work with analytics partners in the performance team including working in conjunction with a senior actuary, data scientist and reporting analysts as required. You will need to use scientific methods and analytic tools to tackle problems including sourcing and integrating relevant data, analysing relationships, and developing and testing hypotheses and model structures.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Demonstrate detailed understanding of the business unit and QBE support functions
  • Develop broader awareness of industry issues
  • Conduct actuarial research as required, including preparing, manipulating, interpreting and modelling data
  • Responsible for carrying out assignments or projects, performing actuarial or data analysis, investigations, and modelling
  • Develop reporting and insights and presents back to the business as required

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • You have completed the Actuaries Institute’s Part II course or are part way through your Part IIIs.
  • Experience in producing meaningful insights from large structured and unstructured datasets and knowledge of relational databases such as: SQL, Hive, Pig.
  • Knowledge and understanding of modern data science techniques and their business applications
  • Preferred experience in SQL and Python and generating reporting pipelines and workflows from scratch.
  • Your sound knowledge and experience will ideally be from an analytics role in data science but traditional reserving/pricing areas will also be considered
  • Understanding of long-tail personal injury products or Schemes (Workers’ Compensation/CTP) preferrable but open to other product experience
  • You have exceptional problem-solving, analytical and modelling skills.
  • You will also have strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and can utilise these to liaise with stakeholders at varying levels across the business to influence best practice outcomes.
