Associate Actuary (Remote)

Description

The Employee Benefits Consulting Practice offers excellent retirement, health, compensation and investment consulting services to our clients. We are looking for a minimum of an ASA designation, preferably FSA or near FSA. The position requires strong actuarial and financial capabilities, good communication and interpersonal skills, and organizational talents. This position provides excellent opportunities for professional development and advancement.

The successful candidate will have nine to fifteen years of Health & Welfare experience working with employer clients, a strong knowledge and management experience of annual tasks associated with overseeing consulting relationships, preferably gained through work at a benefits consulting firm or service provider. This full-time, remote/hybrid position will be supporting the strategic Consultant with managing the delivery of routine actuarial and consulting projects as well as growing and maintaining client relationships.

What You Will Do

  • Support Health & Group Benefits consultants and manage large and/or complex client projects, and potentially smaller relationships for select Health & Group Benefits clients.
  • Oversee and certify all actuarial and financial calculations required for employer health plans.
  • Follow established Milliman protocol for tracking activity, project results and compliance with peer review standards.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with appropriate consultants within the Milliman group of practices.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with carrier / vendor partners.

What We Are Looking For

  • ASA, preferably at or near FSA
  • Nine to fifteen years of Health & Welfare consulting experience working with full-service employer health plans from having worked at a benefits consulting firm or service provider.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated success providing Health & Welfare actuarial and consulting services.
  • Thorough understanding of the marketing / vendor search process and the ability to manage the total process.
  • Thorough understanding of medical, prescription drug, and other welfare benefit coverage
  • Thorough understanding of self-insurance and stop-loss coverage concepts
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with an ability to present and manage presentations covering complex topics
  • Effective time management skills to prioritize and organize multiple complex projects and balance long term goals with short term project requirements
  • Strong skills as a problem solver, including taking initiatives to complete necessary research and document the process used to reach conclusions
  • Current and relevant knowledge of legislation, market trends and issues affecting the Health & Welfare market
  • Willing to work remotely as well as in-office. The position can be located anywhere in the U.S. with access to a major airport.
  • Able to work with time-sensitive material and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Able to work independently while also contributing to team environment.

The Team

The EB Consulting practice provides actuarial and other consulting services for multiple industries, for actives and retirees and for Corporate, Public and Multiemployer Plans. This practice works with several key types of clients organized into the following seven lines of business:

  • Corporate Pension Plans
  • Multiemployer Pension Plans
  • Public Pension Plans
  • Other Postretirement Benefit Plans (Corporate, Multiemployer, and Public combined)
  • Health and Group Benefits (Corporate, Multiemployer, and Public combined)
  • Compensation and Benefits Surveys
  • Investments

Location

This is a remote position. Candidates hired into this role may work onsite in-person on a weekly basis with flexible work arrangements in one of the Milliman office locations listed, if they prefer. Relocation expenses for applicant offered the position will not be paid by Milliman. The expected application deadline for this job is May 31, 2024.

Compensation

The salary range is $95,000 to $199,000, depending on a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, location, etc.
