Retirement Specialist (Actuarial)
Description
As a Retirement Specialist for Consulting, you will support the delivery of quality Retirement solutions covering plan valuations, design & review, including plan conversions, plan administration, and other retirement benefit services. The Retirement Specialist/Consultant may also get involved in insurance, health, and other risk projects requiring actuarial support.
Performance Objectives:
- Provides technical assistance to the Consultant/Senior Consultant in the following areas:
- Data preparation, validation & reconciliation
- Assumption setting
- Actuarial valuation of retirement plans, including the use of WTW standard valuation software
- Analysis of valuation results
- Plan benchmarking, design, and costing
- Retirement plan set-up, review, and harmonization
- Benefit projections and individual benefit calculations
- Other projects requiring actuarial skills
- Prepares the following reports:
- Actuarial valuation reports for local funding and accounting standards purposes
- Comparative plan summaries upon request of clients
- Drafting of plan rules
- Presentation and sales materials
- Assists the Consultant/Senior Consultant in the presentation of results.
- May act as the lead and client’s main contact person within WTW.
Qualifications
The Requirements:
- +3 years experience conducting core valuation work in a client-service-oriented environment with large corporate defined benefit plans; defined contribution plan experience a plus.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects within prescribed project guidelines.
- Strong client relationship, interpersonal, and team skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to ask the right questions and seek help where appropriate.
- Ability to respond to all communications effectively and on time.
- Flexibility and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues; strong client service orientation.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities.
- Ability to work both independently and on client teams and enjoy a fast-paced environment.
- Sense of accountability; owning one’s work and taking pride in it.
- Self-starter; interest in continually challenging oneself and willing to step outside of one’s comfort zone.
- Interest and ability to think beyond the task at hand and understand how one’s work fits into the broader landscape.
- Strong analytical and integrative skills including the ability to draw conclusions and identify trends from data in a logical, systematic way.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related fields.
- Significant actuarial exam progress toward AASP/ASA credentials.
- Background in accounting, finance, investment, and economics.
