Actuarial Consultant (SRC)

Strategic Risk Consulting (SRC) is a part of the wider WTW Risk & Analytics division, which provides an integrated approach to risk management in complex business environments. SRC is a diverse team with a global footprint and includes actuaries, engineers, natural catastrophe modelers, and enterprise risk management specialists. SRC helps companies identify, quantify, and optimize their major risks and connect risk management decisions with corporate financial performance objectives.

The Role

We are looking for a qualified actuary to join this growing global team of over 100 risk consultants. This role will center on providing actuarial model-based insurance optimization and captive optimization advice to a wide range of corporate clients.

You will be responsible for leading the delivery of outstanding client service and support for new and existing business across our range of actuarial services (pricing, capital, and reserving).

In particular, this means:

  • Representing WTW in client meetings and providing material contributions to the relationship with more than one major client.
  • Actively supporting the practice leaders in developing new business opportunities with clients.
  • Managing complex actuarial projects, offering significant contributions to the development of new products, process improvement, and generating new revenue.
  • Managing, mentoring, and being a role model for associates.

Range of Actuarial Services

P&C Pricing and Optimization

  • Leading projects to help clients optimize their insurance strategy by ensuring that the price they pay is optimum for the level of risk being transferred.
  • Producing strategic recommendations based on model results to help clients manage their risks more effectively.

Reserving, Capital Modelling, Solvency II

  • Overseeing and producing actuarial reserving analysis for both our corporate clients and captive insurance clients to support annual reporting requirements.
  • Actively contributing to leading the Actuarial Function of these Captive Insurers. Reviewing their Solvency Capital Requirements (SCR) and Technical Provisions (TPs) periodically, and producing and presenting Actuarial Function reports for the Board when required.
  • Assisting in developing assumptions and challenging them where required to ensure a robust risk management framework.
  • Supporting ongoing compliance with regulations and timely completion of regulatory returns across several captive domiciles.

Aside from the core activities described above, the successful candidate will also take ownership of ad-hoc projects which could include, but are not limited to:

  • Bespoke modelling.
  • Development of modelling tools.
  • Client pitches and Request for Proposals (RfPs).
  • Researching prospects and markets.

Manager of People

  • Responsible for managing and developing the skills, competencies, and knowledge of team members, including overseeing appraisals and objective setting while maintaining high levels of integrity, motivation, and team morale.
  • Establishing an environment that promotes respect, trust, and well-being for the individual employee, ensuring that team members have the opportunity to develop and progress their careers while addressing skills or knowledge gaps with appropriate training.
  • Working with Human Resources to recruit the accurate level of skills and proficiencies into the team, adhering to the company’s inclusive and diverse recruitment procedures and best practices.
  • The successful candidate will receive ongoing training and support within a stimulating, multi-disciplined team of actuaries and other risk professionals to further develop technical, commercial, and management skills.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Qualified FIA/FFA or equivalent with demonstrable post-qualified experience within the general insurance market.
  • This is a client-facing role, and therefore a distinct ability to communicate complex concepts and results to external and internal clients is critical, especially clients who are not insurance industry professionals.
  • Intellectual curiosity to deliver insightful analysis to tight deadlines.
  • Desire to develop new business opportunities.
  • Previous experience in a people management role as well as managing resources.
  • Advanced computer modelling skills including MS Office.
