Trainee Actuarial Analyst (Demographic Risk)

Working style: Hybrid 50% home/office based

Do you enjoy working with numbers and analyzing data? We have an exciting new opportunity for a Trainee Demographic Risk Analyst to join our high performing team based in Alderley Edge!

The Insurance Risk team is seeking graduates or early-career professionals with degrees in relevant subjects to demographic risks (such as longevity) to support its work in one of the following areas:

  • Development of the methodology and assumptions for pricing and valuing insurance risks.
  • Development of the systems used by the teams to analyze our data and experience.
  • Analyze and report the emerging patterns and trends observed in our key risks.
  • It’s expected that successful applicants would have gained an expert understanding of some of the risks from their academic experience and have a proven ability to carry out independent research as required.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals and gain practical knowledge in the field of actuarial science. This position has been created to help support new developments in the insurance risk team. It is ideal for someone who has a strong analytical mindset and is looking to start a rewarding career in the financial services industry.

About the role

  • Undertake analysis using actuarial and analytical techniques.
  • Use actuarial modeling systems, calculation systems and spreadsheets to assist with technical analysis.
  • Manipulate data and calculate results for actuarial reports.
  • Draft sections of actuarial reports.
  • Suggest improvements to promote effectiveness and efficiency of processes, procedures, and documentation.
  • Maintain the actuarial systems, packages and spreadsheets used in line with departmental governance.
  • Assist with the development, testing and implementation of any approved system changes.
  • Provide support to actuarial projects.

About you

  • A degree in biology, life sciences, epidemiology, medical statistics, and public health. You will have achieved or be on track to achieve a 2:1 or higher in your chosen degree subject.
  • Highly numerate with good problem-solving skills.
  • Option to further study as part of the actuarial qualification or other professional qualification related to the role, study support provided by Royal London Group.
