About the Role

Join the Actuarial Operations and Solutions (AOS) team at Swiss Re, where you’ll gain hands-on experience solving complex business challenges, working with industry experts, and developing the skills needed to excel in the actuarial profession.

As an Actuarial Intern in AOS, you will:

• Contribute to innovative solutions, such as applying AI and advanced analytics to enhance actuarial processes and business decision-making.
• Support transformational initiatives that modernize Swiss Re’s valuation landscape, including the development and improvement of global actuarial systems and tools.
• Collaborate with a diverse team of actuaries, IT specialists, and project managers across Toronto, Bangalore, London, and Zurich.
• Gain exposure to Swiss Re’s largest application and database, used by a wide range of stakeholders for Life & Health business management.
• Translate business needs into clear requirements for IT, test system changes, and help launch or support projects that prepare the valuation landscape for the future.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, testing, and implementation of actuarial tools and processes, with a focus on AI-enabled solutions that streamline actuarial workflows.
• Analyze data and develop solutions to improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and insight generation.
• Participate in high-impact projects, such as system enhancements and the integration of new technologies.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to team members and stakeholders.
• Support ongoing business operations and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive team environment.

About the Team

Actuarial Operations and Solutions (AOS) plans, builds, operates, and improves Swiss Re's global systems and processes for Life & Health business management. We own and operate Swiss Re's largest application and database used by a range of stakeholders.

We comprehend business challenges to provide solutions and make strategic decisions that will help the valuation landscape prepare for the future by launching or supporting projects today. We have about 15 team members spread across the globe, including Toronto, Bangalore, London, and Zurich.

Our strengths stem from the diverse backgrounds and skills of our team members including actuarial (pricing, valuation, AXIS modelling, product development, risk management), testing, information technology, and project management.

About You

• Currently pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge, with the ability to apply concepts to real-world business problems.
• Proficiency in Excel and experience with at least one programming language (R, Python, SQL, or similar).
• Interest in AI, automation, and innovative technologies as applied to actuarial work.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Eager to learn, adaptable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have:

• Progress toward actuarial exams or certifications.
• Experience with actuarial software (especially AXIS).
• Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
• Knowledge of insurance, finance, or risk management principles.
• Previous internship or project experience in a related field.
• Understanding of financial reporting frameworks (IFRS 17, Swiss Statutory).
• Project management skills and experience working with deadlines.
