Swiss Re is hiring an

Associate Quantitative Credit Actuary

About the Team:

Are you ready to build your actuarial career in a role that combines technical depth with real business impact? Do you want to analyze profitability across diverse credit portfolios and help steer decisions that shape underwriting strategy? Would you enjoy working closely with underwriters, claims, finance, and senior actuaries to form a holistic view of risk and performance?

At Swiss Re, we are looking for an Associate Quantitative Credit Actuary to join our Actuarial Portfolio Management, Credit & Surety team – where your insights will drive better costing and stronger portfolio outcomes.

We are a friendly and collaborative team who always puts the client first. We partner with portfolio owners to provide the framework of proper portfolio steering and insights to make us more profitable. We focus on data-driven outcomes to find new ways to solve challenges through quantitative models and data transformation.

The Actuarial Portfolio Management Credit and Surety (APM C&S) team reports directly to the Global Head of Actuarial Portfolio Management Corporate Solutions.

About the Role:

As a Quantitative Credit Actuary, analyzing business profitability is key. You will identify the main drivers affecting portfolio performance and develop proposals, in collaboration with senior team members and business owners, to close the gap between costed assumptions and actual results.

You will work with counterparts in Underwriting, Reserving, Claims, and Finance to build a 360° view on your portfolio and produce an independent actuarial pricing opinion on expected performance. You will take part in initiatives that entail developing views on loss trends and set parameters to improve the predictability and accuracy of costing models.

Your insights will have a direct impact on steering the Credit and Surety portfolio and, ultimately, the Business Unit’s performance from various departments, including underwriting, finance, operations, claims, risk management, and actuarial functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support senior team members to develop an independent, data-driven view on current pricing and loss adequacy.
  • Turn analysis into clear, executive-level reports with strong visuals and actionable recommendations.
  • Help translate profitability findings into updates for costing models and parameter settings (EAD, LGD, PD) aligned with Swiss Re Group standards and business needs.
  • Support in Modelling and Pricing of deals.
  • Perform forward-looking sector and credit market analyses and feasibility studies to inform long-term strategy.
  • Apply actuarial and data science techniques to uncover trends and insights that improve risk selection, product differentiation, and costing.

About You:

You have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relations in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment. You can articulate and communicate your work effectively and be comfortable in presenting your work to senior team members and leaders.

You work for the collective success of the team in close collaboration with senior team members. You are open and dependable and demonstrate collaboration and intercultural competence.

Essentials:

  • Up to 3 years’ experience in quantitative analysis or statistical risk modelling (or related areas).
  • Masters in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, or other highly quantitative subject area.
  • Able to combine quantitative skills and business judgment and communicate findings clearly through presentations and visualizations.
  • Comfortable using / learning Python or R for analytics, highly proficient with Microsoft Excel, and able to translate analysis into concise, insightful reports.

Nice to haves:

  • Progression towards relevant professional financial exams (CFA, FRM, CQF, IFoA, IAl, etc.) is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of macroeconomics and financial markets; experience with credit risk modelling or credit products would be advantageous.
