Actuarial Intern

Are you a talented, analytical mind looking to launch your actuarial career in a dynamic professional environment? We're seeking multiple Actuarial Interns to join our innovative organization where you'll gain hands-on experience solving complex problems, working with industry experts, and developing the skills needed to excel in the actuarial profession.

About the Role

As an Actuarial Intern, you'll be immersed in meaningful work that contributes directly to our business objectives while receiving mentorship from experienced actuaries. With 5 positions available across 4 specialized teams, successful candidates will be matched to the team that best aligns with their skills, interests, and career aspirations. These roles are for summer 2026 (May-Aug).

Key Responsibilities

  • AXIS Modelling: Gain hands-on experience with AXIS, the most widely used actuarial modelling platform in Canada. Work with the team to build and maintain models that support financial reporting and portfolio management. Assist with troubleshooting, testing model changes, and improving tools and processes to boost efficiency and accuracy.
  • LH Valuation Canada: Assist with IFRS 17 reporting through financial analysis, plan earnings, and process enhancements. Support assumption validation, transaction onboarding, and ad-hoc analysis such as investigating loss-making treaties. Develop both reporting and modelling skills while strengthening analytical and communication abilities.
  • Global Systems: Support the global actuarial team that manages Swiss Re’s largest application and database, supporting Valuation, Finance, and Risk Management. Assist the development and enhancement of valuation tools, including Power BI that provide insights into cashflows, reserves, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for senior management. Translate business needs into clear requirements for IT, test system changes, and contribute to global standard tools used by actuaries worldwide.
  • Various Projects: Support transformational initiatives that modernize Swiss Re’s valuation landscape, including the in-house IFRS 17 calculation engine and the model migration from RAFM to AXIS. Contribute to innovative solutions, such as applying AI to enhance actuarial processes. Gain hands-on experience with high-impact projects that shape the future of valuation and modelling.

About the Team

The vacancies are spread out through four specialized teams: Modelling Center of Excellence, Actuarial Operations and Solutions, Projects, and Canadian Valuation. Each team features experienced professionals committed to excellence, innovation, and professional development. Successful candidates will be allocated to the team that best matches their skillset, interests, and our business needs.
