VP Actuary (US Pricing)
Job Description
This role will work collaboratively with a broader deal team while leading new deal pricing and focusing on client support and deliverables around the reinsurance (YRT, coinsurance, and financial solutions) of traditional life insurance business.
In addition, this role will support the pricing team and community with internal initiatives. A person in this role understands relevant issues affecting portfolio pricing and performance and is knowledgeable about the use of reinsurance to solve client problems.
This position will contribute to thought leadership around the ongoing evolution of standards and assessment methodologies related to key pricing assumptions.
While collaborating with the Global Pricing, Underwriting, Finance, Experience Analysis, and Inforce Optimization teams, this individual will strive for continuous improvement in the assessment of methodologies and approaches in setting Best Estimate assumptions as well as client and treaty performance.
This position performs its duties through hands-on personal professional efforts and through the guidance and mentorship of others in the US Pricing Actuarial Department.
Responsibilities
- Lead and own the pricing process for assigned clients while working with the deal team to deliver high quality and timely reinsurance quotes to our clients.
- Own the pricing relationship with select clients while providing knowledge and insights as well as building trust and strengthening the value provided to clients.
- Collaborate with teams including Client Solutions, Underwriting, Experience Analysis, and others to agree on the expectations and needs of the Pricing team as client requests are received.
- Work with the Client Solutions team and other departments to find solutions to client issues.
- Assure the continuous improvement of the pricing standards and assessments related to key pricing assumptions through effective thought leadership and projects.
- Research technical topics, share knowledge, provide informed opinions of the best course of action and implement decisions in the pricing process and models.
- Review emerging products, regulatory developments and industry issues. Provide feedback to senior management on the financial impact of these in regard to particular products, particular companies, or overall portfolio.
- Lead the evaluation of and propose pricing approaches for product lines new to SCOR.
- Provide guidance in the assessment and development of mortality assumptions, including adjustments to reflect emerging UW models and practices.
- Work with the Global Pricing team to continually improve data modeling.
- Assist on various projects involving New Business/Growth & Development initiatives as they arise.
- Participate in thought leadership by writing for SCOR’s client newsletters and industry publications, attending and participating at targeted industry conferences and by serving on relevant industry committees.
- Participate in client meetings during client visits, at industry events, or virtually.
- May perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Finance, Economics, or related areas.
- Fellow of the Society of Actuaries with current CPD compliance.
- 10+ years of experience in product management, pricing, and corporate financial management in the life insurance and life reinsurance industry.
- Prior experience in traditional life reinsurance (both YRT and coinsurance), pricing, and developing assumptions for reinsurance business, inforce block acquisitions, and financial solutions is preferred.
- Up-to-date knowledge of life insurance regulations, insurance products, and emerging underwriting practices.
- Credibility and leadership with the capability to generate a high level of respect and trust from management and other actuarial professionals.
- Skilled in mathematical analysis with strong problem solving ability.
- Demonstrated skills in identifying and solving business needs, including preparing and analyzing data, assumptions, and models.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of statistical programming languages (i.e., R or Python).
- Experience with actuarial modeling software, GGY AXIS or Prophet preferred.
- Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office Products and demonstrated ability to learn new software/tools.
- Basic knowledge and awareness of the Agile/SCRUM methodology.
- Highly motivated/self-starter.
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team with readiness to travel on occasion.
- Skilled at collaborating with others across offices and geographical locations.
- Regular attendance and ability to work extended hours, if necessary, to meet deadlines.

Pay Range for roles performed in NC & KS: $182,000-$246,000 base salary per year. Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, role and performance. The range listed is just one component of SCOR's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives.
