Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$181,800.00 – $300,000.00

Join Travelers as an AVP and Sr. Actuarial and Analytics in Loss Analytics, reporting to the Business Insurance Loss Analytics & Reserving Lead. This leadership role is pivotal in providing critical analysis for Business Insurance and the enterprise. We seek a collaborative thought leader and champion for the actuarial community, while bringing fresh perspectives to the role and to our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 14 in strategic vision development, strategy execution, and operational management.
  • Maximize analytic strength, data, and tools to provide crucial business insights and protect Travelers’ balance sheet.
  • Oversee loss reserving, trend analytics, planning, forecasting, and reporting for General Liability, Professional, Umbrella, and Specialty lines.
  • Provide leadership and reserve estimate decision-making for complex claims issues, including but not limited to Asbestos, Environmental, Cumulative Injury, Talc, PFAS, Abuse, and Opioids.
  • Conduct quarterly analysis, communicate results to senior management and business partners, ensure compliance with reserving methods and deadlines, and address all documentation and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with Business Insurance Analytics & Research to enhance data-driven decisions.

What Will You Do?

Strategy:

  • Develop organizational strategy and long-term vision.
  • Develop industry-leading analytics, respond to changing external influences, advance reserving data and tool suite, enhance predictive capabilities, and provide complex claim reserving insights.
  • Create an environment for the successful execution and completion of the entire strategic portfolio.
  • Inspire change and innovation across the organization.
  • Lead and advise on many enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Shape the direction of the organization by engaging and partnering with BI Finance, Business Units, BI Analytics & Research, BI Product Actuarial and other BIAA Senior leaders.
  • Be a thought leader in the actuarial & analytics field with a natural curiosity for leveraging leading-edge practices.

Operational:

  • Ensure strategic alignment for optimal operational efficiency.
  • Lead teams responsible for prior and current year reserve analysis, trend analytics, planning, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Promote efficiency and influence appropriate resource investment across segment, balance additional effort against incremental lift gained from work.
  • Prepare analytical foundations for future business needs.

Communication:

  • Effectively communicate with and influence all levels across Business Insurance.
  • Lead discussions with senior management on complex and detailed analyses.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Resolution Group and Liability Major Case Claim leadership to ensure sharing of claim changes/trends in real time.
  • Demonstrate skill at communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Lead group discussions with multiple disciplines or responsibility levels, including senior leaders.
  • Create formal written communication such as memos or presentations.
  • Identify actions to enhance business outcomes and influence peers and partners to take action.

Talent:

  • Actively engage with Bond and Specialty reserving departments along with Corporate Actuarial, Claim, and International Actuarial on quarterly reserve and trend analysis.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • College degree in STEM related field.
  • Associate Actuarial Credential preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational leadership ability.
  • 15+ years of quantitative analysis experience.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing strategy.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products and industry.
  • Demonstrated ability in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.
  • Exceptional influencing and/or consulting skills; able to build consensus among a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and translate complex information to senior leadership and non-technical teams.
  • PC skills (MS Office).

Leadership:

  • Has a perspective on the industry and developing trends, including: technology, analytic methodology, products, and performance of competitors.
  • Able to effectively utilize this business knowledge in developing and implementing analytic solutions and anticipate the impact of market dynamics on Travelers performance.
  • May influence the insurance industry.

Relationship Management:

  • Can assess various technical solutions to optimize analytical outcomes.
  • Consistently recognizes and solves for emerging issues that require a quantitative solution within and occasionally outside functional area.

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 10+ years of comprehensive quantitative analysis experience required.
  • Project or people management experience required.
