Corporate Actuary Team Lead
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced individual with strong analytical skills and the ability to lead, to manage a number of actuarial analysts who manage the IFRS17 reporting for various lines of business.
Your responsibilities will include, however, are not limited to:
- Leading a team of 3-4 actuarial analysts ('ANSEG owners'), being involved in their technical problems and guiding by example.
- Maintaining strong links with the modelling team, providing them with the appropriate level of challenge to ensure robustness.
- Liaising with the experience study, Group IFRS17 and Local IFRS17 leads to ensure they have the support from the ANSEG owners they need.
- Sitting on XFT (Cross-Functional Team) meetings with a number of Swiss Re teams for particular clients or lines of business, representing Valuation and promoting its insights.
- Taking on additional high priority tasks and projects, as needed, to ensure ANZ L&H Valuation meets its stakeholders' high expectations.
- Being an active member of the Valuation Leadership Team, inspiring, leading and being accountable for the team's performance and staff.
As a senior actuary in Swiss Re, you will encourage and engage a team of talented actuaries to deliver all actuarial reporting requirements and develop a deep understanding of the diverse, complex reinsurance business in Australia and New Zealand to proactively provide actionable insights to senior leaders locally and globally.
Roles are expected to rotate amongst Band D team members over time.
About the Team
Our Valuation team comprises people across both Sydney and Bangalore and are responsible for all the corporate actuarial requirements of the L&H business.
Activities of the team include:
- The calculation and monitoring of reserves;
- Conducting experience studies and recommending assumptions to the Business Reserving Committee;
- Monitoring and reporting of regulatory capital requirements;
- Supporting the Appointed Actuary in meeting their statutory and FAR obligations;
- Providing a service to other functions and units, including Pricing and Portfolio Management & Insights.
About You
You will possess:
- Fellowship of the Actuaries Institute or equivalent;
- At least 10 years' experience in corporate actuarial or life & health insurance industry with knowledge of the Australian market and its products;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to grasp risks and business drivers on multiple product lines;
- An interest in mentoring and guiding more junior team members;
- Ability to influence and lead within cross-functional settings;
- Independence, good judgement and business insight.
