Associate Pricing Actuary

About The Role

Do you have career aspirations to work in the Actuarial Pricing Team in the commercial General Insurance space? This role involves developing the product know-how and analytical skills vital to improve the profitability of a global Underwriting portfolio.

The "Associate Pricing Actuary" is a standout colleague who will support senior team members in carrying out various analyses using data-driven techniques, reporting into the Lead Actuary Engineering within the Actuarial Portfolio Management (APM) Unit.

You should have a good understanding of Actuarial techniques and an eagerness to learn new topics. You will demonstrate the highest level of behavioral attributes to be successful in a multi-cultural distributed team.

You will use actuarial methods and techniques to help develop insights into portfolio trends and set costing parameters for in-house proprietary Engineering costing models, improving the predictability and accuracy of the model.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

Profitability Studies

  • Work with senior team members to build a clear and independent view on current pricing or loss adequacy driven by data analysis.
  • Translate details into impactful Executive reports along with effective visualizations and recommendations.

Costing Accuracy and Data Analytics

  • Help and work with senior team members to translate profitability findings into corrective actions on costing models and parameters, involving:
    • Developing and maintaining costing parameters and tools.
    • Modeling and pricing deal transactions.
  • Willing to learn and use actuarial and data science techniques to develop insights and trends for risk selection or differentiation and costing improvements.

About The Team

We are a global fraternity of Actuaries spread across the globe in various locations. Our team comprises qualified and student Actuaries who work on the largest portfolio for Swiss Re CorSo. We are part of the Underwriting Unit and report to the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).

About You

  • You have a bachelor's degree in a Quantitative/Numerical subject from a recognized university.
  • Good progression towards actuarial qualification.
  • You have practical experience of up to 3 years in an Actuarial domain, ideally in general insurance.
  • You have excellent skills in MS Excel and strong programming skills in R/Python or SQL.
  • You have a flair for data and numbers with a high level of numeracy and attention to detail.
  • You have excellent communication skills in English and the ability to convey complex ideas effectively to a wider audience.
  • You have an open-minded, intellectually curious approach to everything you do; you are likely someone who is continually learning from various sources.
