We are a major player in the Life & Health reinsurance market in Australia and New Zealand. We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Life & Health subsidiary in Sydney which plays a major part in the success of Hannover Re globally.
We are seeking a Valuation Actuary to join our Actuarial team. The role will be a 9 month contract position reporting directly to our Valuation Team Manager.
About the role
As a Valuation Actuary you will be responsible for conducting quarterly valuations, performing actuarial analyses and reporting as well as experience investigations. In addition to this, the position will be responsible for assisting with actuarial department initiatives and contribution to projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct quarterly valuation: collection and analysis of data; calculation of actuarial reserves and report on the results.
- Monitor and report business insight on product experience and identify potential trends and issues.
- Monitor and report client specific experience at a quarterly and ad-hoc basis for key stakeholders.
- Perform experience investigations.
- Review processes and procedures and suggest opportunities for improvement where possible.
- Support other teams in reviewing and improving data integrity.
- Actively contribute to implementation of changes in financial reporting and other actuarial developments within the company.
- Participate/contribute to both actuarial and Company-wide projects.
- Assist other ad hoc tasks as required.

About You:
Experience & Qualifications:
- Nearly or newly qualified actuary (FIAA or equivalent), with at least 5 years’ experience in the Australian Life insurance industry, or equivalent.
- Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Studies.
- Advanced level excel skills.
- Relationship management skills.
- Knowledge of RiskAgility/MoSes, Access, SQL, VBA and Power BI are desirable.
- Self-motivated with a desire to achieve continuous improvement in processes and analysis.
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail and ability to prioritise effectively.
- Clear and effective communication both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strategic thinking capabilities.
- Ability to liaise at Board and senior level.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
