Job Summary:

This actuarial role in the Health Solutions business unit will be responsible for supporting the strategic expansion of the Health Solutions business unit by pricing and underwriting solutions in the Value Based Care and Structured Health spaces. The Sr Actuary will also help prepare documents and slide decks for management and client presentations related to the business they price and underwrite.

Essential Functions:

(60%)Technical support and analysis

  • Develops, maintains, and runs pricing models and templates for use in profit testing and determination of economic capital and embedded value.
  • Provides analysis and evaluation of pricing model results and presents results in an appropriate manner to facilitate senior actuary review.
  • Underwrites and evaluates pricing risks for Value Based Care, Medicare Advantage, Commercial, and Medicaid business in order to acquire profitable new business.
  • Acquires, aggregates, and develops data for use in experience studies, profitability analysis, financial reporting, and risk management. Develops and maintains suitable reports of the data for use by senior management.
  • Examines the viability of potential reinsurance solutions for new products and optimizes current solutions.

(30%)Business management and collaboration

  • Assists the Vice President pricing actuary in marketing reinsurance solutions to prospective clients to acquire new health reinsurance business.
  • Actively participates in client meetings and collaborates with clients to improve performance.
  • Produces required documentation for final pricing package for new business opportunities and actively participates in underwriting meetings.
  • Coordinates model handoff with Health Solutions Valuation team to ensure timely and adequate financial reporting and forecasting.
  • Proactively seeks ways to improve processes and create efficiencies.
  • Works to build strong relationships with others in the department.
  • Manages actuarial associates in the health solutions pricing unit.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar.
  • FSA designation with the Society of Actuaries (ASA considered).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an actuarial role.
  • Experience with the pricing of health products is strongly preferred.
  • Strong quantitative analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and create practical solutions to move complex business problems forward.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office suite skills, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and listening skills, with the ability to explain complex topics to non-technical and senior management audiences.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Programming knowledge: R, VBA, SQL.
  • Insurance product knowledge: Health insurance products.
  • Business knowledge: Reinsurance basics, Stat/GAAP, Solvency II, IFRS17.

Travel:

  • 10% - Expected minimal travel requirements for team meetings and/or client visits.

Compensation (Inclusive of Base + Bonus):

  • $111,500 - $198,100.
