Regional FP&A Analyst (Actuary)
About the Role:
This FP&A Analyst position provides you with the opportunity to become a key business partner to the L&H APAC business by supporting our business leaders in managing and steering their respective portfolios.
Swiss Re L&H APAC business includes a diverse range of markets from China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, HK, South East Asia, and India. We need a team member who can develop a deep understanding of the business to enable them to identify and communicate the drivers of financial performance.
You will support the business in producing and achieving financial Plan targets, with a focus on In Force KPIs and also supporting transaction initiatives. Excellent communication skills are essential in terms of interaction with a wide range of stakeholders.
Transactions:
- Participate in transaction origination by working closely with the origination team (LHSS) to facilitate structured solutions and transaction reviews, including M&A activities, IFRS17/9, and accounting standards.
- Lead the due diligence process for large transactions in Asia, providing financial expertise and coordinating with finance subject experts (Treasury, Tax, Legal entity, etc.).
- Review feedback from finance experts on transactions and be responsible for providing updates and insights to the L&H CFO to assist in their sign-off.
- Collaborate with the team to track consolidated transactions and performance in Asia, communicating key business trends and underlying performance.
- This involves analyzing performance through costing versus valuation, reviewing business results and outputs from the reporting system, and ensuring consistent valuation compared to the business plan and costing.
- Work with Financial Line Valuation, LHSS, and BU L&H Finance to share findings with the team and relevant APAC stakeholders.
In Force Business Partnering and Steering:
- Participate in regular financial update touchpoints for APAC entities. Based on up-to-date IFRS KPIs, provide business partnering support to the business teams to understand potential volatility to results.
- Evaluate and prioritize actions to be taken based on headwinds/tailwinds that will impact achievement of Plan KPIs.
- On various business strategic initiatives, work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions meet the business and reporting requirements.
- Provide SME support to the wider Finance and business community on understanding quarterly in-force results, including supporting assumptions review process for L&H CFO.
In Force Performance Management and KPI Reporting:
- Produce regular KPI reports, identifying significant variances and actively providing up-to-date and insightful IFRS KPIs to business stakeholders, with a focus on In Force KPIs.
- Understand, summarize, and communicate key business trends and underlying performance compared to plan.
- Gain a detailed understanding of the drivers of financial results/IFRS KPI through close collaboration across various functions (Reporting & Controlling team, Valuation).
Business Planning:
- Work together with various functions to lead and support annual business planning, focusing on the In Force plan.
- Develop a country plan target based on revenue/earnings performance and future considerations such as assumption changes, business opportunities, and challenges.
- Coordinate input across various functions (Business teams, Valuation, Finance) and review, challenge, and provide feedback on projection model results.
About You:
- University degree with a background that includes elements of Accounting, Finance, Business, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or financial modeling.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in Finance, Actuarial, or insurance-related roles, with good knowledge of insurance/reinsurance business and performance drivers.
- Strong understanding of multi-valuation concepts, particularly IFRS 17/9.
- Excellent communication skills, especially in summarizing key messages for senior stakeholders.
- Outstanding analytical skills and a commercial approach, keen to develop convincing storylines.
- High degree of curiosity and flexibility to thrive in a global and dynamic business environment across all lines of business and regions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Team player with a high degree of personal accountability and the ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and deliver results within time constraints.
- Strong computing and data management skills; knowledge of multiple financial systems and programming languages is considered a plus.
About the team:
The successful candidate will join the L&H Reinsurance FP&A APAC team. This makes it the go-to function for the region for all questions regarding performance management, financial steering, and reporting.
The team provides advisory on growth initiatives, transactions, and other business priorities. It is part of the Finance L&H Re and works closely with client managers, pricing, valuation, and other teams in Finance and the wider Swiss Re organization.
