Making a difference to the lives of our customers each and every day.Role OverviewThis role is to to support the embedding of our program of sophisticated pricing practices across the UK Insurance Consumer & SME Pricing teams. Supporting the smooth transition to new working practices, developing portfolio analysis tools and monitoring the performance of the new pricing models.We require 2 Fixed Term Contractors until end of 2023 to support the embedding of new pricing models and new ways of working into BAU – one role each for the Consumer and SME Pricing teams. Key deliverables will be the successful transition from current to new pricing regimes and establishing portfolio analysis to monitor the performance of the new pricing models.What you’ll do:This role is in Bupa's UK Insurance business, and you'll be part of the Commercial Pricing team who are responsible for the pricing and analytics for our Consumer and SME PMI insurance products. We're accountable for developing and delivering the pricing strategy in support of Bupa's strategic goals.Typically, this involves analysis of the historical performance of the existing portfolio, identifying the drivers of trends and outcomes, putting forward recommended pricing actions, and modelling the likely future impact of these actions. In all of this work there will be a clear focus on treating customers fairly and ensuring good outcomes for them.You will work closely with colleagues in the pricing project and BAU pricing teams, along with those from other teams such as Actuarial reporting & forecasting, Sales, Finance, IT and Product as well as external consultants.Acting under management instructions there may be the occasional opportunity to support some BAU activity which could involve extracting, refining and enriching data, building and running models using advanced analytical techniques, interpreting results and providing insight and recommendations. Work will be documented in line with the Technical Actuarial Standards, and you'll contribute to the drafting of reports and presentations for consumption by senior stakeholders.What you’ll bring:The role holder is expected to have the following experience and qualifications:<ul><li>Experience in pricing in general insurance or health markets.</li><li>Practical knowledge of GLM/GBM/machine learning, price optimisation, lifetime value modelling.</li><li>Strong numerical and analytical skills demonstrated through previous experience.</li><li>Ability to apply technical knowledge effectively in a business and commercial context</li><li>Strong communication skills, including the ability to present technical information and ensure it is understood by various stakeholders.</li><li>Advanced PC skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.</li><li>Experience with SAS, Emblem and Radar essential.</li><li>Experience with Python would be an advantage.</li><li>Good progression towards the IFoA qualification (or equivalent) would be an advantage</li></ul>BenefitsWe are a health insurer and provider. Additionally, you will contribute to development and provision of the training process for the Asia actuarial team for IFRS17 reporting.<ul><li>The key activities of the Business Management Actuarial team that you will be primarily responsible include:</li><li>Support the production/review of the balance sheet and earnings under IFRS17</li><li>Contributing to the establishment of a new IFRS17 end-to-end reporting process.</li><li>Assisting in review and comment on global IFRS17 implementation approach in various areas.</li><li>Support IFRS17 training and engage BM team to prepare for the implementation. Understand the impact to earnings and balance sheet and provide insight to management</li><li>Communicate the issues/challenges with senior actuaries or stakeholders on time</li><li>Support the production for Hong Kong RBC and other actuarial requirements</li><li>Ad hoc assistance when needed for quarterly reserving and reporting processes of Asia business</li><li>Assist in in-force data quality and proper determination of policy liabilities for USGAAP, Singapore Statutory, and economic reporting</li></ul>About the team Reporting to Regional Corporate Actuary, Life &amp; Health ("L&amp;H") Business Management Actuarial Asia in Hong Kong, you will be primarily responsible for the activities of the Actuarial Management in Asia. The Actuarial Management team is part of the L&amp;H Business Management division in Swiss Re, responsible for managing the in-force business. The Business Management Actuarial team in Asia supports Swiss Re's L&amp;H business in Asia by providing financial information and advice on past/expected future profitability and experience.This team works closely with other departments in Asia's L&amp;H Community, including those in business origination functions (Client Markets and Products teams). Furthermore, the team has interdependent relationships with other units within the L&amp;H Business Management division. The successful candidate will need to proactively liaise with cross functional teams and is required to foster a strong team culture in order to drive delivery of the overall in-force management mandate. The Business Management division comprises the following units: Business Management Actuarial, Portfolio Management, Technical Accounting, and Claims.About you<ul><li>Strong knowledge and working experience in L&amp;H business, plus the ability to communicate business needs with internal clients and external regulators is key to success in this role; </li><li>At least 5 years of L&amp;H valuation or pricing experience in reinsurance, primary insurance or insurance consultancy;</li><li>Attained or close to attaining fellowship in actuarial examinations;</li><li>Excellent interpersonal, communication, organisational skills;</li><li>Ability to balance rigorous technical requirements and business mind-set to be solutions oriented; Strong technical knowledge and the ability to analysis large amounts of data;</li><li>A good understanding of IFRS 17, USGAAP and MCEV.  Knowledge in Singapore local reserving standard would be considered an advantage;</li><li>Good knowledge and proficiency of actuarial modelling systems; MoSes experience is desirable, but not essential;</li><li>Proficient in MS Excel. Knowledge of MS Access and/or SQL would be considered an advantage.</li></ul>
