The completed analyses will be used by internal business leaders for data-based decision making. These analyses may relate to various areas of actuarial expertise, including Pricing, Reserving, Reinsurance, Corporate Reporting, or combinations of these areas. At this level, solid communication skills are essential.Essential Functions:<ul><li>Preparing and presenting material explaining actuarial concepts and findings.</li><li>Providing guidance to non-actuaries on actuarial principles and concepts.</li><li>Representing the Department on cross-functional teams.</li><li>Supporting corporate goals and principles and communicating those to more junior staff.</li></ul>Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:<ul><li>Knowledge and experience using SQL, Excel, Access, and Python.</li><li>Annual statement familiarity.</li><li>Proven knowledge of actuarial techniques and methodologies.</li><li>Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.</li><li>Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.</li><li>Professional presentation skills.</li><li>Team player with analytical, quantitative and leadership abilities.</li><li>May travel up to 15%, as needed.</li></ul>Experience/Education:<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Business or similar field.</li><li>Credentialed actuary (ACAS or FCAS) preferred; will consider a candidate who is actively taking exams.</li><li>2-5 years of actuarial experience required.</li></ul>US Work Authorization:<ul><li>US Work Authorization required. Markel does not provide visa sponsorship for this position, now or in the future.</li></ul>Pay information:Job level is commensurate with experience, specialized skills relevant to the role, and possession of the outlined preferred qualifications. Markel reserves the right to propose an alternative career level based on these factors. Base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors, such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors.The national average salary for the Senior Actuarial Analyst position is $73,000 - $122,600 with 15% bonus potential.
