Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity, and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Loss Analytics and Reserving (LAR)โ€™s vision is to expand the foundation for profitable growth and protect the balance sheet integrity through reliable and innovative loss analytics. This is a new AVP role that combines two existing teams (All Lines / Econometrics and ULAE / Specialty WC) into one cross-lines analytics team for LAR. You will lead a team of six actuarial and analytics professionals responsible for LARโ€™s All Lines portfolio, advancing the science of reserve capabilities, econometric data and analysis, claim handling ULAE analysis, and Specialty WC analysis.

In addition, you will sit on the extended leadership team for LAR and influence the direction of reserve analysis, advanced loss analytics, and reserving modernization among other leadership topics. The AVP, Actuarial and Analytics is a senior analytic leadership role that encompasses strategy development and execution, operational, and talent responsibilities for the assigned unit typically involved in reserving, rate-making, pricing, planning/forecasting, project management, and research.

The individual in this role is expected to drive change within the department and influence leaders up to the VP level across multiple departments. The AVP, Actuarial and Analytics will work within broad limits and authority on complex initiatives requiring specialized knowledge and expertise in several areas, including actuarial and/or research methods, advanced statistical analyses, broad business knowledge, and in-depth line of business knowledge.

What Will You Do?

Strategy:

  • Assess, prioritize, influence, and communicate strategic initiative options to senior leaders.
  • Foster an environment for effective execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects.

  • This position will lead assigned unit strategic initiatives and cross-unit initiatives and is expected to participate in Enterprise initiatives.

Operational:

  • Perform and lead actuarial and analytic analyses to solve business problems and apply judgment appropriately.
  • Drive day-to-day execution within the unit and broad department initiatives.
  • Promote efficiency and identify appropriate resource needs across the primary working group, balancing additional effort against incremental lift gained from work.
  • Make decisions independently in accordance with Segment practices.
  • Consistently provide direction and review othersโ€™ analytical work.
  • Translate ambiguous business needs into analytical solutions.
  • Provide support as necessary for initiatives across the Enterprise within the scope of influence.

Communication:

  • Communicate regularly with staff, peers, business partners, and often with senior leaders.
  • Proficient at tailoring communication of analysis, project results, and other business initiatives to the audience.
  • Proficient at communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences.

Talent:

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • College degree in a STEM-related field.
  • Associate Actuarial Credential preferred.
  • Leadership experience.
  • 10+ years of quantitative analysis experience.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products and industry.
  • Demonstrated ability in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.
  • Exceptional influencing and/or consulting skills; able to build consensus among a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and translate complex information to senior leadership and non-technical teams.
  • Strong PC skills (MS Office).

  • Is familiar with most other key business drivers and disciplines.

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 7+ years of comprehensive quantitative analysis experience required.
  • Project or people management experience required.
