Actuarial Manager (Health)

Develop client-specific knowledge to deliver on the valuation and other consulting support services. Develop your understanding of the wider context and key primary drivers of the results. Independently review the technical results from the base data, establish reasonableness, reliability of checks, and ensure proper audit trails.

Demonstrate a clear, logical approach to reviewing significant technical pieces of work with proper documentation and root cause analysis of areas of concern. Demonstrate a very good understanding of all aligned processes and be able to mentor and provide insights to clients and their teams. The process involves analysis of healthcare products data provided by vendors and onshore consultants pertaining to premium, claims, and plan attributes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • People Management – Typically managing a team of 8-12 colleagues and reporting into the Service Manager.
  • Project Management – Manage projects end to end with a focus on quality of delivery and process efficiency. Track and control project timelines, resource allocation, identify and mitigate risks, and be accountable for communication management.
  • Manage small to mid-size projects independently. Act as a strong PM on new or complex valuations.
  • Complete valuations efficiently and accurately without direction and explain results to the AM/PM.
  • Understand technical topics beyond just knowing what they are and make reasonable interpretations of how they apply to various valuations.
  • Develop unique expertise in a particular area and become the “go to” person in that area.
  • Educate and train colleagues to allow them to complete valuations independently. Review work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Review all work for accuracy and reasonability, ensuring that all results are client ready.
  • Handle most questions from the client when the AM/PM is not available.
  • Good leave management by keeping business requirements in mind to minimize impact on client work.
  • Motivate colleagues, focus on team engagement, and lead by example.
  • Delegate straightforward valuations to junior colleagues and take up complex valuations.
  • Prioritize projects and team concerns with limited assistance.
  • Initiate most valuations without prompting; understand scope, timeline, and deliverables.
  • Ensure all colleagues are utilized as per their skill set and experience.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with mentors and mentees, and weekly meetings with the team.
  • Provide final client deliverables along with relevant options.
  • Escalate questions to appropriate team members.
  • Participate actively in weekly manager meetings and communicate concerns with management.
  • Build knowledge of valuations and interpret results.
  • Develop solid relationships through day-to-day communication.
  • Answer some local team questions without reliance on AM/PM.
  • Give instructions to colleagues for completing valuations.
  • Act as an escalation point for all team members' client deliverables.
  • Test for errors and reasonability.

Working with project teams: Maintain colleague data, staffing, resource allocation, and demonstrate cultural awareness. Participate in the development plans for colleagues and keep the team updated on client and project status. Provide feedback for project teams regarding their performance to their reporting manager.

Able to evaluate and execute process re-engineering. Display a high degree of business acumen.
