Senior Actuary (P&C Reserving)

About the Role

We are looking for an ambitious senior reserving actuary to join our team in performing quarterly and yearly reserve calculations for EMEA market business.

  • You will work with a brand-new actuarial reserving tool, apply the various actuarial reserving methods and decide on the most appropriate reserves for the financial accounts.
  • You will estimate nominal ultimate claims and their pay-out patterns, digging deeper into portfolios as required to identify segments needing specific focus and separate monitoring.
  • You will challenge costing accuracy, contribute to reporting and build a deep understanding of liability reinsurance in particular.
  • You ensure that the overall calculations are comprehensive, complete and well understood.
  • You regularly interact with other functions such as Underwriting, Claims, Technical Accounting and Finance as well as with senior management and build trustful long-term relationships.
  • You will support the transition to IFRS accounting and shape the reporting.
  • You will also regularly work on or lead actuarial-related projects and systems development.
  • You will interact with and train more junior team members and help them to develop their actuarial expertise.

About the Team

The hub Zurich EMEA reserving team consists of 7 actuaries with diverse cultural backgrounds. We value a good team and collaborative spirit. We frequently interact with a large number of stakeholders from different functions. Therefore, we value strong communication skills on top of technical expertise. Our Zurich reserving hub mainly reserves all EMEA General Liability treaty business. Additionally, we are responsible for reserving the Credit and Surety and Agriculture business.

About You

Are you an experienced qualified actuary with 4-8 years of experience in reserving/financial reporting in Insurance or Reinsurance? Are you ideally, familiar with liability or any other long-tail line of business and (re)insurance markets and products?

You have:

  • a university degree in science or related subjects
  • strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Programming skills in R, Python or other related languages will be considered an advantage.

Fluent in English and another major language, you have multicultural communication skills, curiosity and are a great teammate. We will consider any other major language a plus.
