Actuarial Manager (Business Solutions)

Your role at a glance:

We are currently looking for a Qualified Actuary (or equivalent) to join our Retirement Division as an Actuarial Manager working within our Corporate Development - Business Solutions Team. This role would suit a skilled professional who is motivated to support our division (Legal & General Retirement Institutional) in achieving its ambitions.

In this role you will work on projects that are aimed at balancing profit and capital usage for both the UK and international businesses of L&G. You will support these projects from inception to implementation, including steering them through our governance processes. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders as part of this varied role.

This is a hybrid working opportunity based from our London Offices in Moorgate, which will give you the autonomy and freedom to work effectively either at home or in the office.

What you'll be doing:

  • Collaborating with various business divisions to optimise profitability, considering impacts on capital, tax, and earnings.
  • Fostering value-add relationships with external counterparties, examining the cost and economic rationale of prospective transactions (reinsurance or otherwise).
  • Supporting with communication and cooperation between internal teams, Regulators, Reinsurers and other key external counterparties to deliver projects and solutions.
  • Exploring new capital management solutions and keeping up to date with the market developments and opportunities.
  • Supporting the structuring of new transactions from feasibility to implementation. This will include specifying key terms and mechanics of new solutions, managing the legal negotiations, and taking ownership of documentation needed.
  • Assisting with obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals or permissions for execution of special projects and capital management solutions.
  • Conveying the findings of pricing exercises to senior management and governance committees.
  • Overseeing handover of new solutions and transactions to operational teams, ensuring appropriate administration and ongoing management.
  • Ensuring our customers are treated fairly by working with sufficient controls, systems, and processes in place. And remediating/resolving any risks or issues identified.

What we're looking for:

  • A Qualified Actuary or other equivalent qualification or comparable role experience and capability.
  • Some knowledge of pension regulation with respects to pension buyouts and longevity insurance.
  • Knowledge of the reporting and regulatory environment in which L&G operates and their influence on our decision making.
  • Being comfortable with capital modelling under the Solvency II regulatory framework.
  • Knowledge of the US and Bermudian regulatory frameworks and/or reinsurance markets for bulk annuities in the UK and/or US would be desirable (but is not essential).
  • Ability to create and maintain purposeful working relationships around the business and with relevant external stakeholders.
  • Well organised and responsive, with the ability to manage expectations and keep relevant parties informed/updated.
  • A clear communicator who is adept at explaining complex, technical concepts to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable with purposeful challenge and debate and can proactively progresses ideas and solutions.
  • Actively problem solves and focuses on timely delivery.
  • Knowledge of capital management solutions for bulk annuity insurers would be beneficial.
  • Experience of/the ability to effectively people manage in a project-based environment.

  • Competitive Salary ranging from circa £60,000 – circa £75,000 (depending on experience)
