Actuarial Analyst

Position summary:

Swiss Re is seeking an actuarial analyst with strong coding experience, or an experienced coding expert with P&C insurance experience to join its regional actuarial team in Singapore, Hong Kong or Seoul, reporting to the Corporate Actuary, Swiss Re Asia.

The position will be responsible for:

  • Preparing statutory reporting filings for one or more of the branches of Swiss Re in Asia.
  • Assist in the evaluation and preparation of Group reserves and reporting for Swiss Re's Asia P&C business.
  • Provide custom and/or automated coded solutions for the Asia team.

This position is an Assistant Vice President role. Actual responsibilities will be weighted towards the successful candidate's skillset (actuarial / coding).

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supports quarterly review of P&C loss reserves for Swiss Re's Asia Operations
  • Provide support to the senior Actuarial & Reserving leaders in the region as necessary
  • Support discussions with underwriting in relation to reserving feedback loops and other product analysis
  • Responsible for statutory matters relating to P&C Reinsurance for one branch, completing internal and external reporting as required (e.g. Branch Management Committee, Liability Valuation Report, Appointed Actuary, ICAAP/ORSA).
  • Provide additional support to other branches' statutory reporting as required.
  • Support other areas of the company including Finance, Planning and the transition of accounting standards to IFRS17.
  • Work with regulators and internal/external auditors on routine and special matters
  • Work on other projects as assigned including participating in internal underwriting audits
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local actuarial and industry associations
  • Participate in industry related committees representing Swiss Re

Position Requirements:

  • 5+ years' experience in a Property & Casualty environment (insurance/reinsurance, commercial lines); reinsurance experience a significant advantage.
  • Newly or nearly qualified actuary OR experienced programmer in R.
  • University degree in actuarial science or related field (mathematics or finance) OR computing science related degree.
  • Actuarial valuation and reporting experience
  • Very good understanding of actuarial, accounting, information systems and investments.
  • Familiarity with IFRS17. Korea-specific experience would be an advantage but is not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of statutory, regulatory and insurance accounting environments. Experience specific to Korea would be a significant advantage but not a requirement (knowledge of other Asian environments would also be viewed favourably).
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills. Fluency in Korean would be a significant advantage but not a requirement (knowledge of another Asian language would also be viewed favourably).
  • Strong practical capabilities in Microsoft Office and other business software applications; extensive programming skills in data analytics applications (R, Python) would be a significant advantage.

  • Proactive in seeking out and providing information
  • Actively looks to add value and take on additional responsibility
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks accordingly
