Corporate Actuary (6 Month Contract)

About the Role

This role is a key contributor to the development and implementation of processes for the IFRS17 accounting standards for the Australian and New Zealand life insurance actuarial management team.

The role involves implementation of Group IFRS17 reporting (2024) and embedding of Local IFRS17 reporting (2023). This includes quantification of impacts, investigation of valuation outputs, process set up, documentation and handover. It also will be an important contributor to development and provision of the training process for the ANZ actuarial team for IFRS17 reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify inputs and projection runs required for ongoing APRA reporting and internal Swiss Re quantification studies;
  • Coordinate model runs with the modelling team (located in Bangalore) to ensure all model runs are completed accurately in a timely fashion;
  • Collate and validate results using existing reporting tools and new project tools as they become available within project timeframes;
  • Identify issues and problems with valuation calculations and propose remedies;
  • Communicate the results of IFRS17 dry runs to the ANZ valuation team and through the IFRS17 project team;
  • Assist in determining and implementing the handover plan to enable ANZ valuation team to have end to end control of IFRS17 valuations from commencement of the standards;
  • Contribute to determining and implementing a practical and effective process for local IFRS17 and regulatory capital reporting. This includes liaising with relevant members of ANZ actuarial management team to agree solution; and
  • Provide support for effective training of ANZ actuarial management team in new valuation set up, checking, analysis and reporting tools.

About the Team

The L&H Actuarial Management team consists of management, project and process experts leading/supporting efforts to inform and guide the business that bridge across functions (Pricing, Reserving, Finance, Products and Client Markets).

About You

  • Fellowship of the Actuaries Institute or equivalent;
  • At least 5 years' experience in corporate actuarial or life & health insurance industry;
  • at least 3 years in Australian or NZ MoS life insurance valuations and local capital requirements;
  • Knowledge of IFRS17 valuations;
  • Knowledge of the Australian L&H market;
  • Knowledge of actuarial valuation systems, would be viewed favourably;
  • Experience with life insurance accounting, management reporting and actuarial valuation system implementation would be viewed favourably;
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to handle both conceptual and practical issues;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently, sound judgement and business acumen; and
  • You enjoy team collaboration and contributing to the broader team on local and global business initiatives.
