Consulting Actuary (Health & Welfare)
The Northeast Employee Benefits Practice has an opening for an experienced Health & Welfare Consulting Actuary. The successful candidate will have ten years or more of Group Benefits consulting experience with particular emphasis on health care. Candidate should have great client relationships and a strategic and proactive approach to their consulting. Experience with staff management and mentoring will take the practice to the next level. The Health & Welfare team is based in New York City and Little Falls (NJ). This practice focuses solely on full service employer health consulting including but not limited to HR strategy, vendor management, financial/data analytics, compliance, employee communications, and employee advocacy. Collective bargaining experience as well as knowledge of retiree health plans is preferred. As part of a larger Northeast Employee Benefits practice which has four locations: New York City, Little Falls (NJ), Albany (NY) and Philadelphia. The practice provides a wide range of consulting and administrative services for Employee Benefit plans. You will be joining over 100 fellow employees in a challenging, dynamic work environment and a thriving Employee Benefits practice.
- Lead Actuarial Consultant supporting Senior Strategic Consultant to deliver technical and consulting services for large clients, and Senior Leadership role on midsized clients
- Proactively support client (and senior strategic consultant where applicable) on strategy and delivery with knowledge of marketplace, recent developments and trends in industry
- Able to lead meetings and interact with clients at a high level
- Oversee all project streams and manage workflow to ensure cohesive and timely delivery of work product
- Overseeing mid-level actuaries and checkers in planning work, providing mentoring and developing technical skills
- Responsible for delivering claim analysis and reporting, vendor solicitation, selection and oversight, core actuarial services including claim reserve, pricing and postretirement claim cost calculations, and consulting on design (including pricing plan design changes).
- 10+ years relevant experience in employer health consulting
- ASA designation required / FSA preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with all aspects of the health care marketplace including plan design, pricing, benchmarking, financial management/analysis including experience projections and administration
- Experience leading client relationships
- New Business Development experience preferred
- Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Staff mentoring or management experience
The salary range for this position is $150,000-$250,000 depending on relevant factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, location, etc.
