Actuarial Analyst
This is a team member position for the Actuarial Services Unit. The ASU is a team supporting actuarial pricing analytics and regulatory rate compliance for Swiss Re's Corporate Solutions North America Region various product offerings.
The individual will also be closely working with the North America Standard team (a recent middle-market product offering initiative) on various pricing/regulatory projects.
- Main responsibilities
- To prepare state specific rate filings as per the state regulatory requirements.
- Support other Actuarial teams within North America on various projects like product development, rating plan designing etc.
- To build processes to simplify tasks and drive improvements.
- To perform actuarial pricing tasks (rate review, rate impact etc.) of a well-defined process nature.
- To perform compliance audits on the rates being charged by the business versus filed rates.
- To apply technical knowledge and process skills to solve problems and develop solutions, i.e. investigating data issues and reconciliation.
- To work on competitor analysis to analyse company's rating factors and supporting premium, loss & expense data with key competitors in order to assess the competitiveness of the rate
- Translate details into impactful executive reports with effective communication
- Ensure operations are implemented according to internal guidelines and best practices
- Support, help develop and review US regulatory laws regarding filings
- Use actuarial and data science techniques to develop insights and trends that can be used for risk selection or differentiation; and rating improvements
- To take ownership of tasks assigned and drive them independently
- Education
- Postgraduate in any of the Quantitative Sciences (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Engineering, etc.) with solid numerical, mathematical, statistical or similar background
- Good progression towards actuarial qualification
- Skills
- Highly developed numerical and analytical skills.
- Applied these skills using real business data to develop insights and practical solutions.
- Good understanding of actuarial methods, models and related business processes.
- Statistical programming skills (e.g. R, Python). Know-how of data science techniques would be an advantage. Proficient in other tools and techniques like MS Excel, Access, SQL. Working knowledge in Excel VBA.
- Can review analytical results, derive recommendations and communicate implications to all partners- from peers to senior leaders.
- Knack for enhancing existing process through constructive and pertinent ideas
- Accomplished interpersonal and communication skills – demonstrates a clear and articulate standard of written and verbal English communication
- Interested in working in an international, multicultural and complex environment
- Work well in a virtual team environment with diverse partners spread across the world
- Identify, encourage and accommodate different points of views
- Project management skills and experiences would be an advantage
- Experience
- Overall 5+ years and Minimum of 2-3 years working experience in Insurance or Reinsurance Preferably experience in property and casualty North America
