Senior Actuary

We make the world more resilient by managing the Canadian Life & Health reinsurance business balance sheet, optimizing the capital in support of the Canadian business, and by exploring new data analytics and approaches to gain further insights into L&H business.
You will be an integral part of our Canadian actuarial valuation team and be contributing to a wide range of initiatives related to financial reporting. As a seasoned actuary and a member of our valuation team, you will have an opportunity to lead and manage projects and ultimately share your conclusions with senior management. You are also encouraged to champion a collaborative and inclusive environment and participate in the coaching andcareer development of other team members.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead projects within the Canadian valuation team e.g. quarterly financial reporting on a Swiss Statutory basis, performance of ad hoc experience analysis/assumption reviews
- Support the Group IFRS-17 implementation project
- Collaborate on inter-disciplinary teams (Client Markets, Risk Management, Operations and Finance) on behalf Actuarial Management and support corporate initiatives and client-related projects as needed
- Involvement in the quarterly valuation process including identifying areas that require simplification(s), improvement(s), refinement(s) and develop a plan to remediate
- Contribute to the broader team development including coaching of actuarial students and providing input in career development
- Learn and promote Swiss Re's expertise within the L&H Canadian industry actuarial community
About The Team
This role is within the Actuarial Management Canada (AMC) team which is part of the L&H Business Management Americas division, which manages our Life & Health reinsurance business. The AMC team has approximately 35 colleagues spanning multiple geographic locations. The AMC team manages multiple reporting bases and is working closely with the local Finance team.
The team is heavily involved with key local regulatory deliverables such as: IFRS-17 implementation, annual preparation of AAR, FCT and ORSA reports, and quarterly filing of LIMAT. The team is also responsible for monitoring the experience of the Canadian business and supporting a number of initiatives driven locally and at the Group level
About You
- University degree in mathematics or actuarial science
- FCIA with minimum working experience of 7-10 years post-fellowship and/or 10-15 years in the L&H insurance industry
- Relevant background in a corporate actuarial/consulting environment including: financial reporting, modelling and audit/peer review
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to present ideas/solutions to senior leaders is essential
- Solid organizational and project management skills
- Agile and willing to adjust own set of priorities in order to maximize the value that you can bring to our organization
- Ability to mentor/support career development of other team members
- Knowledge of IFRS-17 for the valuation of L&H products (required)
- Experience with assumption setting and experience monitoring (highly desired)
- Modeling with AXIS modeling software (preferred)
