About the role

We are hiring a Senior Risk Actuary to join the Life and Health Risk Management team. You will have the opportunity to acquire an overview of Swiss Re's risk taking across the Life and Health reinsurance business. The role encompasses both an Americas and global focus and you will work with colleagues from the Americas, EMEA and Asia teams.This role can be based in our Armonk, NY, Kansas City, MO, Fort Wayne, IN or Toronto office. 

The role will involve:

Reviewing transactions and proposals

  • You will review transaction, retrocession and solutions proposals to support Risk Management's signature. You will provide expert opinion to ensure risk capital is set appropriately and key risks are identified, reflected and mitigated.

Promoting a risk aware culture

  • You will contribute to the maintenance of a comprehensive risk management framework, including proposing appropriate limits, assessing business plans and ensuring reporting of the risk landscape to a variety of stakeholders
  • You will support initiatives to improve Risk Management's infrastructure and methodologies (e.g., supporting internal model vetting, risk capital factor reviews, governance for origination activities)
  • You will investigate key risk issues and topics relevant for L&H business (e.g., extreme risk analysis, pandemic risk and monitoring, L&H accumulations, financial frameworks)

 Leading and supporting costing assurance work

  • You will support and lead assurance activities through participation in Insurance Risk Reviews and Terms of Trade Reviews 

Cooperation and communication with stakeholders

  • In order to conduct your role successfully you will foster strong relationships with a variety of client management, business management and products counterparts within the global L&H community.  You will also work closely with other risk management teams.
  • You will provide advice to help business partners balance business strategy with appropriate risk management

The Reinsurance Risk Management L&H Americas team works closely with the equivalent teams in EMEA and Asia. Risk Management helps ensure Swiss Re's profitability and sustainable growth over time so that we can honour our promises. We help the business not only steer away from risks that could destabilise us, but we also identify risks worth taking. We contribute to risk taking by creating risk transparency, leveraging our knowledge and experience, and bringing an independent and long-term perspective. In this way we protect Swiss Re's reputation and financial strength.

About You

  • An extensive technical and commercial appreciation of L&H business. Knowledge of all the key products and services offered by Swiss Re and its competitors
  • Accomplished interpersonal and communication skills – demonstrates a clear and articulate standard of written and verbal communication in a complex environment
  • Excellent issue resolution and influencing skills
  • Business sense and appreciation of sound risk management and actuarial techniques
  • Ability to use experience and judgement with minimal supervision or direction; have the confidence and foresight to use own initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks accordingly

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified actuary (FSA, FCIA, FIA, FFA or recognised equivalent).
  • Excellent working knowledge of L&H business.
